The Lion Dance is said to bring good fortune, prosperity and longevity to wherever it is performed. Master You Nan Chen and the team from the International Wushu Academy will bring all the colour and excitement of the Lion Dance to Sunnybank Plaza, while the team from Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu School will visit Sunny Park.

The traditional Dragon Dance combines the unique colour, sound and spirituality of Chinese culture in a spectacular physical performance. Demonstrating strength, agility, concentration and rhythm, highly skilled dancers bring a colourful fabric and bamboo dragon to life. See the world-renowned Dragon Dance team from Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu School perform their multi-award winning dance during the Lunar New Year celebrations at Sunnybank Plaza.

Tai Chi is the gentle art of health and well-being for people of all ages and health conditions. Come and see demonstrations by the International Wushu Tai Chi Academy during our Lunar New Year celebrations.

The Sound of AusOriental Orchestra is a non-profit group of local musicians who have come together for the joy of music. Along with the orchestra, audiences will also enjoy some Peking Opera and Chinese Dance performances, featuring friends of the AusOriental group.

Chinese calligraphy has been around for over 2,000 years and is one of the highest forms of Chinese art. Calligraphy Master Eric Lin of the Serenity Calligraphy Association has been practising this art form for over 50 years, winning many prestigious awards for his skills. Have your special Lunar New Year message scribed by Master Lin as a treasured memento of this year’s celebrations.

Master Artist Jenny Gao, founder of the Xiu Zhen Ge Centre of Embroidery, will be returning for this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations. Jenny will be demonstrating the ancient art of Chinese Embroidery which she has practiced for over 20 years, and will have a range of traditional fashion and accessories for sale. Beginners embroidery workshops will also be on offer.

Queensland Aesthetics & Dance Promote Association will be joining us with a range of cultural handcrafts and plants for sale. Local artist, Henry will be performing live demonstrations of traditional beaded sculptures, with a large range of pre-made items for sale.

The Worlds Arts & Multiculture Inc. team will be joining us again this year to give our customers a special cultural experience. The team will have some handcrafted decorations, ceramics and lion puppets for sale. There will be a range of cultural displays, costumes and artwork to view. The team will also present a traditional Indigenous Taiwanese glass bead workshop. No bookings required.

The friendly team from the Taiwan Women’s League will be displaying and demonstrating a range of traditional arts and crafts in celebration of the Year of the Dragon. There will be beautiful souvenirs and traditional puppets for sale.
