Foodieadam: Experiencing Your Personal Chef 米饭班煮

WHO – Your Personal Chef 米饭班煮

WHAT – Hong Kong Cuisine

WHERE – Located outside the Sunnybank Plaza, in the the carpark area next to Welcome Fresh Food.

WHY – Trendy eatery with a moody ambiance with cartoon covered walls, and menu items that will make you want to come early to not miss out (the Hainan Chicken)

As you walk in this venue you will be taken away by its ambiance.
Dimly lit and relaxed vibes, you will not be in a rush to leave… especially when the food arrives.
Also all the walls of this venue have been decorated with popular cult cartoons which make for great entertainment.

With multiple seating options this is great for a date night to a gathering… and the food is perfect for sharing.
The main goal was to try not to over order, which is proving to be a challenge for each dinner.

PRO TIP: Try to come before 7pm, or pre-order the Hainan Chicken if you’re also a huge fan of it. We didn’t and missed out, and we don’t want you to make the same mistake lol. But… if you do miss it, get the chicken rice it’s perfect in every way.

Your Personal Chef Hainan Chicken Rice

HAINAN CHICKEN AND RICE

While the chicken is undoubtedly a key component of the dish, I personally think the main event is the rice, which is cooked with chicken fat and chicken stock (from poaching the whole chicken). And they do service this special rice separately too.

NOTE: If this is your first visit, get this!

SPICY GRILLED FISH

So this surprised us slightly.
This beautiful fish comes out on a stove top in a large pan cooking away, swimming in that spicy mixture. It’s a great show, and the aromas coming off of this moist fish is so good.

Perfect for sharing, just make sure you don’t forget the cheeks. ????

BRAISED DUCK IN FIVE SPICES

All the great pieces of the duck, crispy skin and moist meat. Backed up with the rich five spice sauce to add a very unique flavour sensation.

Five-spice powder has a distinct licorice-like flavour due to star anise, with sweet and warm flavours from the cinnamon and fennel. Cloves add a cooling sensation while the Szechuan peppercorns add a numbing and peppery note.

Fun Fact: 5 Spice is the best-known Chinese spice mixture and it combines spices in accordance with the balancing philosophy of yin and yang

CHAR KWAY TEOW

Big flavours, contrasting textures and the signature hint of charred smokiness, this is bold South East Asian food at its best!
