For almost two decades, Ho Chia has been the go-to spot for curing Taiwanese cravings. Cooking and serving homely Taiwanese eats, the food-court style eatery features generous servings, quality food and no-frills service.

It first opened in the early 2000s, and since then, Ho Chia has developed a cult following among locals for their cheap yet uncompromisingly tasty food. Authentic Taiwanese dishes permeate the menu, which changes daily. Even with it’s changing menu, owner Joon said staple favourites are always available, like their infamous salt and pepper chicken, and pork and vegetable buns.

Focusing on serving all the classics you’d get on the streets of Taiwan, you’ll find an array of diners from morning to evening tucking into Ho Chia‘s freshly made dumplings or slurping on hot noodle soup.  All of their dishes are under $15, and feature a combination of different meats and vegetables served with rice or stir fried rice noodles. While many choose to order takeaway, if you eat in, you’ll be greeted with complimentary homemade soup, with flavours changing every day.

The menu usually features six different kinds of vegetables and five different meats. Diners can choose combination dishes from the bain-marie that is filled with braised pork belly, ginger shallot chicken, salt and pepper chicken, pork ribs, tomato and scrambled eggs, bean curd, potatoes and stir fried Asian greens. Don’t leave without trying their well loved steamed pork and vegetable buns, which are served after 2pm every day and made in house using their own unique recipe.

If you’re keen to create Taiwanese food at home, Ho Chia has their pork and vegetable buns available frozen, as well as their homemade dumplings, shallot twists, shandong buns and noodles.
