Year of the Pig

The Pig is the 12th and last position in the Chinese Zodiac, symbolising character traits such as generosity, compassion, and diligence. Pigs enjoy life, are extremely giving and gain much enjoyment from helping others. Pigs are very honest and they expect others to be honest in return. When it comes to money, Pigs enjoy spending more than saving, but they know how to find great deals. In their quest for fun, Pigs often over indulge which can have an impact on their health. Pigs aren’t very active and are often overweight. Pigs are social and dislike being alone.

Pigs seek peace and will do whatever is necessary to maintain peace in their lives. Pigs are always doing, helping anyway they can, but rarely ask for help. This can cause them stress, but Pigs don’t mind. Pigs are reliable in the workplace and enjoy opportunities that allow them to express their creativity. Pigs are detail-oriented, and aren’t afraid to take on responsibility. Some good career choices for Pigs include: entertainer, caterer, doctor, veterinarian, or interior decorator. Retail or hospitality are also good careers for Pigs.

Supportive and giving, Pigs make great partners. They’re affectionate and appreciate what they have, especially their home and family. Once they find the right partner, they’re typically committed for the long-term. Pigs are most compatible with a Rabbit or Goat and incompatible with the Monkey and Snake.

The Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese Zodiac is based upon a twelve year lunar cycle. Your sign is determined by the year in which you were born (to be accurate you must use a Chinese calendar). Each sign and those born under it, are represented by one of twelve animals, and are ascribed a set of attributes the Chinese believe comprise the nature of each particular animal.

Legend has it the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac were chosen by Buddha. When Buddha was near death he invited all the animals to visit him. Only 12 came: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, Goat (Sheep), monkey, rooster, dog and pig. For visiting him, Buddha honoured each by using them to represent the 12 phases of the Zodiac.
